2013 SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

2016
Rita Ralston, Meghan Norwood, Stephanie Ralston Khurana

Returning to Annapolis has become a valued annual tradition, presenting another graduate with the Jeffrey D. Ralston Memorial Scholarship and recalling again all that is so special about St. Mary's and its own tradition of excellence. Learning of the many accomplishments of this year's graduates assured us that all has continued and all that is good about St. Mary's, remains.

Meghan Norwood is this year's honoree. Her academic achievements are stellar. She carries a 4.05 grade point average, placing her among the top of her class while taking a full load of honors and AP classes. She is a member of the National Honor Society and a Parvis Scholar, an honor for students selected for their academic achievements and Christian leadership ability.

Her strong work ethic and time management skills enabled Meghan to not only achieve academically, but also to allow for development of noteworthy leadership roles and social strengths. Meghan excels outside of the classroom as few others have been able to accomplish. For the past five years, she has volunteered at the Boys and Girls Club of Annapolis, actively supporting their social projects. She has been a peer tutor at St. Mary's for four years and a Key School summer camp counselor. Since 2007 she has been an instructor at the Annapolis School of Irish Step Dance. She was a member of the St. Mary's Junior Varsity Soccer team and Varsity Track and Field team; a leader in the junior Kairos program and a member of St. Mary's Life Teen Core Team since 2010. She also earned several accolades as a member of the National American Miss Pageant. At various times, she also worked as a waitress, spa technician, cashier, and delivered the local daily newspaper for four years. The number and scope of her volunteer and extra-curricular activities is truly impressive.

She is a confident young woman who has the ability to make anyone around her feel comfortable. A person of integrity, she has demonstrated multiple times that she can be a person one can count on as trustworthy and competent. As Stephanie Ralston Khurana described in her presentation speech, "Meghan Norwood truly represents the whole person who is also a good person. Not only is she incredibly strong in each of the attributes, but she takes her strengths and gifts, shares them with others while demonstrating a willingness to continue learning to improve herself."

Rita Ralston and Stephanie Ralston Khurana were pleased to present Meghan Norwood with the $1000 Jeffrey D. Ralston Memorial Scholarship award and delighted to join her mother, Kathleen Norwood, in congratulating Meghan for her fine achievements.
